A lesson from a capitalist

I met my teacher few days ago to talk about my future. He asks me about the research subject I'm passionate with. Frankly, I have no plan. Just few dream which are almost impossible to become a reality. That time, I realize that I'm not an ambitious person. Throughout my life, I just am following the flow. Do anything I had to, and stick to the rules. Not more, not less.

My teacher once told my friend and I about a speech by a capitalist he met on the day before we talked. The capitalist is a 50 year old man, with the position of CEO in an international company said to him (my teacher) "I am 50 year old and I have a plan for another 40 years. I've been making money for 25 years and I want makes more money for the next 40 years. My father died at the age of 102 and stop from going to his office by 90." Then my teacher told about another capitalist which is the owner of established company in Malaysia. The capitalist said, "I am greedy. We, capitalist always love money. But for us to make more money, we have to make sure there are people out there to give us their money. To do so, we have to ensure the sustainability of buying power and the ability of the people to buy our products." The determination in the CEO's mind is the one that my teacher wants me to have. The willingness to workhard and focus are the attitude that my teacher wants me to live with. I just smile (counting years for me to do things that I want to). My teacher add, "Wan dah sampai tahap ni. Supposed you have something in your head. Saya tak mau arahkan Wan buat ikut kehendak saya. I don't want to dictate you. That is definitely not an ISDEV's style," he said.

Hesitation is not something that I can leave behind especially in this situation. It is not only about the like or dislike. It is not only roaming between want and don't want. It was the third day I asked Allah to give me hidayah, to guide me to the best way. He had given to me. Might I stand strong? or should I change the path? After the fifth day, I believe this is the best I can do. InsyaAllah Prof, I'll not let you down.

I met my teacher yesterday. I need to see him before submit the form that bothering me for the whole past week. He gave me a smile. A smile of a father, a smile of a teacher. A smile that give me strength. InsyaAllah, I will come back as a person that he can count on. And the determination he wants me to have, the willingness to strive and focus. I will be. I am now.

ps: harap2 istiqamah la... .
